The revolutionary Opel Ampera debuted world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show, at which Carl-Peter Forster, President of General Motors Europe, has announced that this extended-range electric car will go into production in late 2011 .
The Ampera will also be manufactured in right-hand drive version to be sold in Britain under the Vauxhall brand.
The design of this car with 5 doors / 4 seats is strongly influenced dall'apprezzato Opel design language, which tends to combine sculpture and German precision, and includes both innovative styling cues introduced as a concept car Flextreme and GTC Concept.
Opel Ampera's wheels are always driven by electric motors at any speed. At distances of up to 60 kilometers the engines are powered by electricity stored in a lithium ion battery with 16 kWh and the car drives without any CO2 emissions. Once exhausted the battery, an internal combustion engine which acts as on-board generator provides to extend the autonomy of the Ampera to more than 500 kilometers.
Opel Ampera batteries can be recharged easily to any 230 volt outlet. GM Europe is studying with some energy companies such as Spain's Iberdrola requirements of a recharging infrastructure for electric cars.
