Mazda CX-7 refined design, best quality at the best time

The new model further refines these features thanks to the work of designers who have made ​​more sophisticated and even more enticing, but also more environmentally friendly. While retaining the sporty look of the full original model, the new CX-7, in addition to improved ride comfort, handling and boasts excellent road holding, along with a quieter interior, characterized by great refinement. The environmental sustainability of the car was improved with the adoption of the new clean diesel engine that delivers greater power and torque, reduces fuel consumption and ensures compliance with Euro 5 standards. The design presents a series of upgrades that enhance the emotional impact due to a Mazda family look even more distinctive and dynamic, with elegant details and the strong impression of quality. While the current structure of the suspension provides more refined ride performance.

In its new guise, the CX-7 has the same sporty look as its predecessor, with the slope of the aggressive front pillars, arranged at an angle of 66 º, the belt line that rises up, the powerful wheel arches (inspired the sports coupe Mazda RX-8) and large alloy wheels. Facelift on all of this is underlined by the five-point grille design from scratch. The overall impression of greater size and great temperament - in the wake of the latest generation design language introduced with the new Mazda3 - is confirmed by the elegant chrome trim elements that contribute to the aesthetics of the model. Original fog lights also entered into a new home wedge whose lateral sections seem arrows pointing to the fender.

 

The aesthetic improvements remain on the sides and on the back of the car. Moldings chrome slide under doors, around the windows and immediately below the large Mazda logo of the rear section. For the CX-7 facelift is also a new larger roof spoiler (all depending on the outfit).

 

Complete updates of the exterior of the new alloy wheels 18 and 19 inches, whose three-dimensional design emphasizes the sporty character of the car. The range of seven body colors has been expanded with three new brilliant options, Aluminium Metallic, Stormy Blue Mica and Sparkling Black Mica.

All the space and practicality of an SUV, an ergonomic cockpit, sporty lines and exquisite were the ingredients of the success of the first CX-7. In these features the Facelift combines a series of upgrades designed specifically to highlight further the quality of the interior, a quality that one sees and hears. The new material of the panels and the dashboard with an embossed surface and rounded edges serves both to reinforce the impression of quality of these components, both to make them more resistant to dirt. The steering wheel has enjoyed the makeover and has a greater number of control buttons. The instrument cluster in front of the seat grows with new dials with white needles for a three dimensional look, and new frames that give off a blue light.

 

The entire dashboard is surmounted by a double eyelid for new design that curves upward in the middle part to make a new rposto Information for Multiple Display (MID). The panel of the car was also redesigned and side seams are black or colored metal.

 

Among the new elements introduced to quality also remember the new anti-glare chrome vertical race steering wheel and chrome-ringed air vents of the middle and on both sides of the dashboard. The first of Mazda CX-7 was one of the more sophisticated models in the segment, and the new facelift remains faithful to this approach. The torsional body stiffness has been increased by 5%, improving ride comfort and reducing the noise coming into the cabin from the road.

 

The engine range has been enriched by the new generation 2.2 turbo diesel which is one of the quietest, most refined engines of non-premium SUV segment. For example, the connection between the lower base aluminum and the cylinder block provides for 18 different anchor points for the maximum rigidity and attenuation of the noise of the engine. The presence of the countershaft balancing with chain drive type cassette helps to reduce engine noise and vibration, while, in the diesel versions, a special system of control of the torque on the rear wheels eliminates the resonance phenomena of the kinematic chain of the rear.

 

Devices have improved soundproofing of the bonnet and engine compartment to completely eliminate high frequency sounds. They have adopted new systems of insulation for the shock towers and wheel arches. The pillars adopt a new polyurethane foam and are absolute novelties the thick insulating layer of increased thickness of the dashboard and floor mats.

 

The motor gasoline DISI high performance chosen by Mazda for the CX-7 facelift has various updates NHV (reduction of noise, vibration and noise), such as the new soundproofing devices mounted on the turrets of the shock absorbers and the insulating layer of the dashboard, denser and more capable of reducing the noise inside the vehicle.

This results in a very precise timing, that designers have exploited to optimize the number of injections per cycle and to control precisely the amount of fuel that enters the combustion chamber.

The new CX-7 with the MZR-CD 2.2 is not limited to ensure maximum driving pleasure, is also limited in consumption, whereas this sporty SUV so spacious and so versatile needs only 7.5 liters per 100 km ( combined).

Various factors contribute to this result: the compression ratio of 16.3:1 quite low (for a compact SUV), the small size of the turbocharger, the most efficient intercooler and special gear ratios.

Also important is the role of high efficiency injectors that reduce the minimum interval between injections to 200 μ s, for an injection rate increased by 30% and a perfect control over the amount of fuel used during the cycle.

The MZR-CD 2.2 meets the Euro 5 emissions standards and uses the most modern technology, Mazda abatement of exhaust gases. The new particulate filter (DPF), made ​​of a ceramic material with high thermal resistance, uses a special catalyst developed by Mazda.

Using oxygen stored in the base material together with oxygen content in exhaust gases, the catalyst is able to improve the combustion of soot emissions. Thanks to the greater volume of oxygen used, the new system makes the regeneration of the filter faster and more efficient.

In fact, for the DPF adopted by the CX-7 Facelift interval between operations of regeneration (NEDC mode) is about double compared to traditional systems and the process takes one third of the time. Once cleansed of particulates, the exhaust gases pass through the new system of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) developed by Mazda to significantly reduce NOx emissions (see box).

The injection of fuel takes place not only during the suction phase, but continues during the subsequent compression phase carrying a richer mixture in contact with the spark plugs for increased stability of combustion. The MZR 2.3 DISI turbo engine delivers a power output of 191 kW/260 hp at 5,500 r / min. and a maximum torque of 380 Nm at 3,000 r / min. Promptly respond to the pressure on the accelerator pedal, bringing the new CX-7 from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.2 seconds and allowing a maximum speed of 211 km / h. Both engines use a six-speed manual transmission whose compact three-shaft design is the same as the original model. The transmission has triple-cone synchronizers for the first, second and third speed, and a double-cone synchronizer for the fourth, all designed specifically for a gearbox efficiently and accurately. Thanks to the conveying liquid low-viscosity grade, the insertion of the gears be easily implemented even with a cold engine.
