The new Lexus LFA supercar of the 21 century is the second Lexus. Presented as a prototype will be available in limited edition of only approximately 500 individuals at the end of 2010. Constructed using carbon fiber technology with 4.8-liter normally aspirated V10 engine, capable of 560 hp, rear-wheel drive, six-speed automatic transmission and a speed of 325 km / h and acceleration from 0-100 km / h in just 3.7 seconds.

Reducing the weight of the car to the absolute minimum was one of the elements that defined the development of the project and this has led to the decision to switch from using aluminum for the construction of the car to the carbon fiber Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP)   both for the frame   for the body. The carbon fiber has four times the strength of aluminum and offers an incredibly rigid and strong as well as significant weight advantages, saving about 100 kg on an equivalent aluminum component.

The heart of the LFA has been custom built, naturally aspirated engine is a V10 that sets new standards for its compact size, light in architecture and its performance.   From the outset it was determined that the engine had   have a displacement of 4,805 cc, with an output of 560 hp   at 8,700 rev / min, but it also comes at 9,000 rpm / min. The angle of 72 degrees between the cylinder banks has been considered the angle   ideal for achieving a good balance of the engine and to ensure its exceptional operating noise. Using a dry sump lubrication system of the engine has been positioned very low down in the engine compartment, lowering the center of gravity of the car and moment of inertia and thus allowing the engine to manage a high-speed cornering. The V10 produces 480 Nm of torque at 6,800 revolutions / minute, 90 percent of which is available from 3,700 revs / min up to 9,000 rev / min, thanks to Dual VVT-i. The sound was edited in datail the intake and exhaust system are designed to deliver an awesome "soundtrack" that expresses the extreme performance of the car, both outside and inside. Considered by the team responsible for the acoustics as "Octave Harmony", the sound is inspired by the sound of a Formula 1 engine at full speed and is different from that of any other road car, with different harmonic characteristics that vary with the variation of the number of revolutions up to its maximum of 9,000 rev / min.

The Lexus LFA has one of the most advanced and powerful braking systems fitted to any production car, capable of satisfying the needs of its 325 km / h.   The brake discs are carbon-ceramic (CCM), which besides being lighter than steel, fade-gives exceptional performance in all conditions.   The front discs are 390 mm in diameter and 34 mm thick, with six-piston aluminum calipers, rear discs are 360 mm, 28 mm thick and have come with four-piston calipers.

Lexus LFA also excels in aerodynamics long wind tunnel testing have helped to create a profile with a drag coefficient of 0.31, a remarkable achievement, given the level of the car creates a downforce at high speeds.   The airflow is controlled with extreme precision above, below and around the machine.

The LFA will be assembled by hand at the Motomachi plant in Toyota City.   Only 500 units will be built,   at most 20 per month to ensure the best quality construction and attention to detail. Each V10 engine will be assembled by a single technician, and take his signature.

The price? About 370,000 euros.
